Confidence is Virtue

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

We overlook the importance of confidence. We hardly evaluate our level of confidence, yet it is one of the main factors that influence our outcome if you look at it closely. It’s amazing how even the steps you take to improve confidence look so simple. Research has shown that small things like taking a shower and smelling nice have proven to affect our mental attitude. Whether you believe it or not, your level of confidence attracts the kind of results you get, the people that come into your life, and ultimately how you see yourself.

Confidence, by definition, is a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something. It is a feeling of being certain that something will happen or that a particular thing is true. Virtue, according to the dictionary, is a beneficial quality or power of a thing. In simple terms, it is an admirable quality or trait.

Salespeople understand this. You cannot successfully sell out something if you don’t have that convincing power of confidence about your product. The product on sale might not be the best on the market, but the way you advertise it with confidence is what draws the hearts of men to it. Let’s talk about an interview; one of the basic things the employers are looking for is a requisite level of confidence on how you can qualify for the job. The same is true for you. It means besides your good character and innocent appearance, another virtue that you have to own is confidence. It’s astounding how many nice people have been overtaken or taken advantage of simply because they didn’t have enough confidence. Another important thing I have observed comes from a scripture in the bible. Solomon, who happens to be one of the wisest men ever to live, said in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter nine verse eleven, “I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”

Looking at it, you can easily relate every quality mentioned to the reciprocating result. For instance, if you are to engage in a battle, you certainly have to be strong. You ought to be swift for a race. King Solomon, however, says it differently. In fact, in the end, he mentions everyone. Which means anybody is capable of becoming or doing anything. The same goes for confidence; you don’t need to own certain things or become someone before you walk in it. You can start where you are. For example, we all know of certain people with a special aura around them. When they enter the room, even before they say a word, just their mere presence already speaks volumes. These people may not look beautiful or handsome; they may not even have the perfect body or skin. They may not be as successful as us, and yet their confidence attracts us to them. We admire their energy. I’m not saying these things don’t increase one’s confidence, but my point is you don’t have to own much, achieve all your goals, own the latest gadget, have the perfect body weight before you become confident.

Just as diligence, honesty, loyalty are virtues, so is confidence. You can start developing it from right where you are. Yes, you aren’t that rich, but you certainly can ask that lady you love so much out. She may like you back; be confident in yourself. Ladies love it when a guy is confident, even if they are lies; they still believe them for some reason. Don’t lie.

Confidence is a virtue. Some ladies are afraid to break out of toxic relationships because they cannot speak out their deep feelings. Some are afraid to be alone. Some have lost their virginity due to pressure and have been taken advantage of on account of lack of confidence. There are numerous stories of how many young people have fallen because nobody taught them to be confident. Nobody took their time to construct their minds on how beautiful and valuable they are, and because of that, they don’t have confidence in what they can achieve. They die for nothing in the hands of irresponsible people. What a pity.

However, the good news is that no matter how messy your past is and what you have been through, you can start finding yourself today and become virtuous. Lack of confidence comes from comparing yourself to others and poor knowledge of yourself. Confidence has to come from within, not from without. Believe that you are God’s best, that you can make it in life just like those who did, and that you truly deserve the best. Believe in your abilities, focus more on your strengths. Be humble enough to work on your weaknesses and continuously build your capacity. Never stop learning. You are unique and special the way you are. Start being confident in yourself today because you are the greatest!
